Judy Banker w/ Ed Dupas
Ann Arbor-based Americana/Alt-Country artist, Judy Banker, and her band of Michigan all-stars -- David Roof (multi-instrumentalist), Tony Pace (electric guitar/dobro), Alan Pagliere (pedal steel), John Sperendi (upright/electric bass), and Brian Williams (drums) -- will be previewing a handful of original songs from Judys highly anticipated third full-length studio album, Buffalo Motel (January 2020 release), as well as favorites from her previous recordings. Described by Pulp Magazine as A singular unique talent and stage presence, her music organic and soul-driven, Judy quickly established herself as a songwriter/performer with the release of her first studio album of original songs, Without You, in 2014, followed by the release of her well-received sophomore studio album, Devils Never Cry (2016). Currently at work on her third studio album, Buffalo Motel (January 2020 release), Judy and the band take a creative turn, blending Judys 60s folk and vintage country rock influences with an innovative, contemporary rock sound. True to her previous work, Judys songs continue to dive deep into emotionally complex themes using compelling, memorable lyrics and melodies.
Fellow Michigan Americana artist, Ed Dupas, author of well-worn, wide awake music, who just released his third album, Lonesome Side of Town, will open the evening. Recently awarded third place in the 2019 annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Competition, Eds simple yet soulful music flows from an array of broad social themes to more personal narratives of love and loss. With comparisons ranging from Steve Earle to Bruce Springsteen, Ed paints a sonic picture of the road less traveled and the world de-familiarized.
