Sunday, November 24, 2019, 7:15 PM: "Music from the United States"
The gargantuan emotional, aesthetic, and stylistic range of American music is nearly indescribable. This program includes:- the Aaron Copland Piano Variations (considered epochal and completely unheard-of at the time of its composition)
- two songs by Mary Lou Williams
- the Three Preludes and Sonata of Charles Griffes (a neglected genius)
- the Sonata for Piano by Samuel Barber
- songs by Kenneth Grigg

Some music, like Maurice Ravel's brilliant Gaspard de la Nuit, is literally born from poetry. Some music contains epigraphs before the musical text begins. Some music seems inextricably although indirectly linked to the printed word. This recital will contain all three of these, and more.
(Order tickets to just this concert here.) Saturday, March 28, 2020, 7:45 PM: "The Singing Flute"
With guest artist Catherine LeGrand.
The flute has long been considered one of the few instruments comparable to a voice; in fact, the opera Lucia di Lammermoor features a famous gran scena in which voice and flute are nearly equal, including a cadenza for both.
Senza Misura, the duo with Kenneth Grigg and Catherine LeGrand, has long performed transcriptions of great songs and arias in small groups; this program is an entire evening of some of the greatest vocal music in existence, performed by a flutist whose tone and palette of colors is incomparable.
Program: Music by Claude Debussy, Leonard Bernstein, Georg Frideric Handel, Sergei Rachmaninov, and more (Order tickets to just this concert here.) Sunday, May 24, 2020, 7:15 PM: "La Salle intime: Chamber Music"
Details of this program will be announced as plans are finalized.
