AWAY with HOME
"If you don't fight for what you want, then who will?" - Kevin Nguyen
"Identity. Belonging. Away with place it goes. Away with time it goes. Away with home it goes." - Lucy Luo
What do home, identity, and belonging mean to you? With those three questions in mind, director Elaine Carol began rehearsals of AWAY with HOME, working with youth who drew from their own personal experiences, and together have created an entirely new work that explores issues of immigration, racism, mental health, bullying, maturation, family, victimization, identity and belonging.
AWAY with HOME is a trans-disciplinary performance work that features five youth from the community ranging in age from 14-21. AWAY with HOME combines contemporary and hip hop dance, neo-soul and hip hop music, Taiko drumming, image theatre, performance art and performance poetry together to examine the thematic questions.
Join the MISCELLANEOUS Productions team on September 27 or 28 as these youth bravely share with you in their own voice and their very personal experience of what home, identity and belonging means to them.
