Sevilla, mi tierra | Sevilla, my land
An intimate evening of explosive and passionate flamenco like no other. Miguel Vargas and Ale Cano hail from Sevilla, Spain, carrying in their art every ounce of energy, talent, duende and mystery that flamenco demands. They will perform traditional styles of flamenco dance and song; a beautiful call and response with authenticity and utter mastery. Take this opportunity to see two of Spains greatest here in Maine!
Miguel Vargas is a world-renowned flamenco dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Sevilla, Spain. He is the founding-director of the Miguel Vargas Flamenco Dance Theatre and the Center of Art and Flamenco of Sevilla, Spain. He has performed and taught globally and is one of the greatest exponents of flamenco dance worldwide. Miguel began his career in Spain, dancing in the most renowned tablao of Seville, Los Gallos. He has worked alongside artists such as Manuela Carrasco and Mario Maya, has performed before the King and Queen of Spain in the inaugural Winter Sports World Championships in Granada in 1996, and has performed throughout Europe, the US, Asia and the Middle East in venues such as the New York Lincoln Center and the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman, among countless others.
Ale Cano is an artist and scholar who is driven by passion and the love of art. He has worked in theaters, concert halls and tablaos, both as a soloist and accompanist, performing in Seville, Tenerife, and across the US and Argentina where he performs cantes a compás (rhythmic songs) with mastery, singing in a manner that is primal and visceral; songs that leave the soul as if it were for the last time.
