Medicine Songs Workshop in Heben Bridge
For as long as I can remember, music has always been medicine. Music gives me a tangible way to relate to my inner world of emotion, feeling and imagination. In this way I would say that music is my first language. Music is an eloquent way to share what is in the heart beyond the confines of the rational mind, which I believe to be the language of the spirit. Through rhythm, tone, imagination and intention we can come closer to the living spirit within all things, and build a more intimate relationship with the forces of nature which give us life. In this way, music is a medicine which can bring us more in touch with the essence of our own existence.
These innate understandings have naturally led me to feel very inspired by devotional music and prayer songs of various traditions of the world, and after some years of travelling and learning many songs I feel inspired to carefully pass them on. We will create a ritual space where we will learn and sing the songs and I will share stories of how I came to carry these songs and what each song means to me, along with clear instructions of how it is best to carry them, honouring what the are and where they come from.
I encourage you to bring a medicine drum and/or a guitar if you have one. The songs I share will depend on how many people come and what instruments they bring. If you don't have an instrument, just bring a willing voice. Truly, that is really all you need. A notebook could also be very useful.
We will be hosted in a private venue in Hebden Bridge. The address will be sent to those who have purchased tickets.
My prayer is that through a clear intention we can find ourselves coming closer to the Great Spirit, and through soulful music we can offer a sincere voice to the heart of the world; a sound to remind us we are all connected in this great mystery of life.
