The Portola was designated San Francisco's Garden District in 2016, but its history as a flower growing and agricultural area dates back to the end of the 19th Century. The Portola Garden Tour is a fundraising event for students in the Environmental Horticulture and Floristry studies at City College of San Francisco (CCSF). The tour is now in its 13th year and has award 23 Portola Garden District Scholarships to CCSF students and funded six work projects carried out by students in the Portola. The tour is self-guided and this year features 25 private and public gardens. It is a fun, family friendly event that highlights San Francisco's creativity and the love of green space. The Portola Garden Tour is Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with an after party at the local brewery starting at 3:00 p.m. , Ferment. Drink. Repeat. (FDR) at 2636 San Bruno Avenue, in the Portola. A local brew made with hops grown in the Portola Gardens will be available for sale. Ticket are $25 per ticket or $20 each for multiples.
