Wombat Theatre's Steampunk Production of Cyrano de Bergerac
The first show of our new season is an interactive, site specific, steampunk version of Edmond Rostand's Cyrano De Bergerac. (Yes, you read that right). Our inspiration for this production is from the Second Industrial Revolution, when Romantic idealists who believed in the pastoral, lush quality of life that came from a traditional society were pitted against the American Dreamers, who adopted social change, technology, and the "big-business" of mass production. We know what happened when factories became booming, smoke-stack castles and conditions for workers became heinous. We know what happened when people started to move from rural towns to big cities. What if Cyrano de Bergerac the hero of Romanticism, words and old fashioned honor - took place in this time of social upheaval? Throw in some steampunk-Victorian flair and an immersive, action-packed audience experience, and you have a true Wombat Theatre Co production. We want our audience to participate--to drink--to laugh--to get out of their seats and get involved in the story--in the world we have created. We can't wait to see you there.
The audience will become involved in the action, sharing moments (and breaking bread!) with the characters themselves as we take you on a wild ride through Cyrano's story--an experience that will change your view of "interactive" theatre for good.
