This Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, Exhumed Films and the Mahoning Drive-In Theater offer an escape from the real life blues... and its going to get a little weird. Join us for REEL WEIRD WEEKEND VOL. II, three thematic double features guaranteed to alter your reality!
Friday, Aug. 30:
REMOTE CONTROL (1988)- Aliens plot to take over the world via subliminal mind-control signals contained on VHS cassettes of a popular science fiction movie. Only a video store clerk and his pals can save the day! An oft-overlooked gem from the 80s which is a treasure trove of nostalgia for fans of the video store era. Director Jeff (SQUIRM, BLUE SUNSHINE) Lieberman will be in attendance with signed copies of the film on Blu-ray for sale!
VIDEODROME (1983)- In one of David (THE FLY, RABID) Cronenbergs most bizarre and unsettling features, disreputable TV station operator Max Renn (James Woods) discovers and seeks to acquire a twisted new program which he soon learns contains dangerous transmissions that can alter reality by inducing brain damage, which is being used as part of a global conspiracy. A freaky, engrossing masterpiece! Long Live the New Flesh!
Saturday, Aug 31:
PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974) - A wicked record producer manipulates and steals the music from Winslow Leach, a struggling young songwriter, in order to open his new club, The Paradise. But despite being branded a criminal and disfigured in a tragic accident, Leach waits in the winds and bides his time to exact his revenge! Brian De Palmas rock opera take on PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY and FAUST is a cult film fanatics delight that just keeps getting better and better with age, like the film itself has made a pact with the devil. Music by Paul Williams. Photo ops with the Phantom will be available!
BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1972)- The incomparable Russ Meyer teamed with young film critic Roger Ebert for what was to become one of the most brilliantly untamed motion pictures ever to be released by a major studio. The sweet rise and glorious fall of a small town rock band that travels to Hollywood to make it big is the back drop for a wild mixture of Meyerian madness and music depicting the depraved, nightmare world of show business. Featuring a very catchy soundtrack by Stu Phillips and The Strawberry Alarm Clock.
Sunday, Sept. 1:
INFRA-MAN (1976) - A ragtag army of mutant monsters led by Princess Dragon mom rise from the bowels of the Earth to wreak havoc, and its up to a robotic-enhanced super human to save the world! Hong Kongs answer to Ultra-man is a furious, fun, non-stop monster spectacular that is a family friendly must-see for Godzilla and kaiju fans!
SUPERARGO AND THE FACELESS GIANTS (1968) - A masked ex-wrestler/superhero in red bullet proof tights takes on a madman and his army of robot-men in this Italian sci-fi adventure film.
