PRESENTER: Ronald L. Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP Owner of RLGA Technical Services, a specifications and building code consulting firm in Scottsdale, Arizona

Topics to be discussed: Codes vs. Standards (Overview of the differences between them and how they relate) o Learning Objectives: -- Understand what is a standard, various types of standards published, and their development process -- Understand what is a code, various types of codes published, and their development process -- Understand how codes and standards are used together -- Understand the differences in language used by codes and standards
BIO: Ron Geren has over 35 years' experience in the construction industry, which includes projects covering many building types such as residence halls, classroom and office buildings, libraries, multifamily residential, commercial office and retail, religious, theaters, and military. Ron is a professor of architecture at the School of Architecture at Taliesin where he teaches construction documents, building codes, practice management, and building construction technology. He is also a member of the AIA Codes and Standards Committee. Ron is the author of Applying the Building Code: Step-by-Step Guidance for Design and Building Professionals. Ron is a certified construction specifier, a certified construction contract administrator, and a certified building plans examiner, and is a former Board Chair for the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
