VOICES FOR PEACE
Voices for Peace Saturday, December 14, 7:30 P.M. First United Methodist Church of Pasadena
The voices of the Angeles Chorale will become VOICES FOR PEACE as we present our first concert of the 45thAnniversary Season: VOICES! At a time where there are conflicts around the world and within our own nation, the Chorale will bring to life the hauntingly poignant sounds of Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem. Literally grant us peace, Dona Nobis Pacem was created using three poems by Walt Whitman, prophetic texts from the Bible, and a portion of text from a political speech given in Englands House of Commons. Written in 1936, this iconic work is Vaughn Williams impassioned plea for peace, as he warns against (what would become World War II) the worlds move towards healing conflict with violence and hostility. His words continue to ring true, and continue to be needed. Performed in six thrilling movements, this work will fill you with hope, joy, and a wish for peace on earth. In addition, the program will feature a mix of your favorite holiday carols! Lift your spirits with the popular audience sing-a-long as we ring in this season together. Join the singers of the Angeles Chorale in lifting your voice in that age-old hope and prayer for peace on Earth.
