To me there is nothing complicated about ordinary equality. - Alice Paul, Women's Suffrage Champion
U.S. Women's suffrage colors: purple - loyalty; white - purity; yellow - hope
Winter Concert REINVENTING LOVE A fresh look at the season of yearning - from the innocent and hushed to the passionate and daring.
The ethereal Jerusalem, an unexpected Irish expression of growing love, contrasts with the lilting and spirited Pues Logra Ya from the Cuban Baroque, which compares the arrival of the Child to singing love into existence. The gripping double-chorus Seikilos, written in 2011, calls us to shine and love for as long as we live. Whitacre's Five Hebrew Love Songs are intimate and profoundly personal, and Rutter's Dancing Day dares us to dance and sing God's true love.
New Music for Treble Voices HANDS UPON THE PLOW
PWC presents its tenth New Music for Treble Voices Festival, featuring some of the Bay Area's most renowned treble choirs. Be inspired by music of determination, perseverance, and the will to make big changes, as we honor women's suffrage champion Alice Paul with a new commission by Jocelyn Hagen and PWC's own poet and singer Barbara Saxton. As we Rise Up, we Hold On, and we forge ahead.
Spring Concert FOR CRYING OUT LOUD Joy, pain, laughter, reconciliation...
From Emma Lou Diemer's lighthearted Five Limericks to struggles of women workers rights in Bussewitz-Quarm's The Radium Girl, to Kristina Boerger's heartbreaking Ballade with Christine de Pisan, we are reminded of the myriad ways emotions can strike our hearts.
Mari, crying out loud on behalf of Mother Nature, and nourishing self-renewal in Gaur Arbola by Basque composer Eva Ugalde, will both travel with us musically during our June 2020 Spain tour.
We arrive at the culminating point of our Trailblazers Project's journey as our unabashed voices ring out, transforming future generations who will not be silenced.
