Goblin: Giallo Live
Playing Los Angeles for the first time in their 40 year history, Goblin will perform a full, live set pulled from their most iconic scores, including: Dario Argento's giallo classics Suspiria, Tenebrae, and Deep Red, and George A. Romero's seminal Dawn of the Dead. Immediately following Goblin's performance will be a 35mm screening of Argento's SUSPIRIA.
The line up for this tour will include original members since 1975 Claudio Simonetti and Maurizio Guarini (keyboards) and Massimo Morante (guitar). The band is rounded out by drummer Titta Tani and bassist Bruno Previtali that joined in 2010.
SUSPIRIA 1977, 20th Century Fox, 100 min, Italy, Dir: Dario Argento
Jessica Harper, Joan Bennett and Udo Kier star in this landmark giallo inspired by an essay by 19th-century opium eater Thomas De Quincey. Argento's magnum opus (the first of his "Three Mothers" trilogy) mixes witchcraft, nubile young flesh and expressionist set design into a truly hellish brew. SUSPIRIA is as visually ravishing as it is violent; its director explaining the film's distinctive look as "trying to reproduce the color of Walt Disney's SNOW WHITE." Goblin's eerie progressive rock soundtrack envelopes listeners in a web of Moog, mellotron and guitar, and has been sampled in everything from Hong Kong action films to hip-hop songs.
To celebrate Goblin's first show in Los Angeles, Beyond Fest is producing a limited edition poster designed by seminal UK artist Graham Humphreys. A fan favorite of the band, Graham's poster will be made available exclusively at the show.
The event will take place inside the auditorium of the Egyptian Theatre.
Doors open at 7:30 PM. There will be an intermission between the live performance and the screening of the film SUSPIRIA.
This event is presented by Amity at the American Cinematheque.
