NLTP's Darkroom Series 2
New Light Theater Project presents its Darkroom Series, a monthly event which features four to five different companies and artists. Each company or artist is invited to present material currently in progress.
Doors open at 7pm with musical guest, Conly Basham, and lobby art by Ryan Cassidy will be on display.
This month will feature:
A Conversation Between Tap and Trumpet Performed by Stacy and Rob Alley Expand the boundaries of uncharted territory between live jazz trumpet and tap dance by exploring improvisation as a driving force in a creative exchange and how this relationship between the two informs both artists' interpretation of the music.
FRESH PRODUCE'd NYC and The Glass Eye will be presenting an excerpt from Sexless in the Boroughs by Colleen O'Connor, directed by Kyle Metzger. Starring Colleen O'Connor and Andrew Davies, this show is inspired by O'Connor's Blog of the same name, chronicling her ups and downs as a 26 year old virgin New Yorker. A short version of the piece first debuted at FRESH PRODUCE'd NYC in May, and will continue its development in September with a week long workshop ending in 2 staged readings. In October, Sexless in the Boroughs will have its world premier at IRT theatre in the West Village.
Alien Sex Comedy by Alan Charnock Directed by Bryan Hunt and developed by The Iron Curtain Theater Company. Wackadoo little play about three aliens who fly to earth to learn how the human species reproduces, the aliens haven't figured it out and are slowly becoming extinct on their planet. The only research they have their hands on are these live broadcasts from the BBC (Backdoor Booty Call). So porn. They crash land on earth, meet some humans and hilarity ensues.
CAUSALITY by Jonathan Phillips. The violent breaking point of a young boy is retraced through the desperate narratives of nine characters. Directed by Brendon Votipka, produced by The Fishbowl Collective.
New Light Theater Project will present a selection from their upcoming production of THE OEDIPUS PROJECT, a new adaptation of Sophocles' Oedipus Trilogy. Using an original score of folk music and Gregorian chants, the company of 15 actors shed a different light on a classic story. Directed by Sarah Norris.
Curated by Literary Manager David Sernick, these events are meant to be an opportunity for emerging arts organizations to share their work in a laid back atmosphere that fosters continued development and support.
