Camarada presents a program of American music anchored by two exhilarating chamber works by John Harbison and David Diamond. Harbison's American Painters for flute and string trio evoke the artists' after images based on art from the Metropolitan Museum. David Diamond's propulsive Quintet for flute, string trio and piano is the fascinating finale, and one of the few pieces written for this combination of instruments. San Diego composer John Lorge will introduce his 2002 commission by Camarada, The New Rule for flute, cello and piano. This concert also features Simple Gifts and Theme from Schindler's List by John Williams, Elegy for viola Elliot Carter and favorites by George Gershwin.
