Breakup Bench is an actor-musician pop-operetta about a girl who takes guys to the same park bench to break-up with them. One day, her bench disappears and she finds herself stuck in a long-term relationship, unable to break things off without it. Things get even more complicated when an ex returns and a whole new set of problems arise. While navigating the maze that is modern dating, the three learn to cope with their relationships in love real, fake, and lack-there-of. Breakup Bench made its first public appearance spring of 2017 at the University of Washington, receiving support from the Mary Gates Endowment for Leadership.
Rheanna Atendido is a Filipino-American playwright, composer, and performer born and raised in the greater Seattle area. Recently graduated from the University of Washington, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theater, Psychology, and a minor in music. As a self-taught musician she has spent the past decade writing and recording pop songs; posting them on YouTube and streaming her album Letters to Whomever on all major music platforms. As a performer, she was recently been seen on stage at The 5th Avenue Theatre (Mamma Mia!, AMT Northwest Bookshelf), Seattle Repertory (The Odyssey), Village Theatre (ZM), and Taproot (Bright Star). Atendidos journey into playwriting and composing began the summer before her final year of college when she challenged herself to write a ten-minute musical. What started out as a small project quickly evolved into what is now her first full-length show, Breakup Bench. Since then, she has composed for companies such as Book-It Repertory, ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery, and The Horse in Motion. Other works include Cultural Essay and Tides of Fortune with Mara Palma in residency with The 5th Avenue Theatre. Find her on social media! @rheannaatendido
