smARTfilms: Childhood Framed - "The Holy Girl"
Join BIMA for five weeks of films curated by Steve Tremble, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts executive director and a former director of Cornell University's film program.
The works in this series are not childrens films, but films about the mysteries of childhood which, of course, are the same mysteries we carry into adulthood. These comedies and dramas, rich in observation and allegory, are both as simple and complex as childhood itself.
All sales are final. No refunds.

An exceptional intelligence guides the work of Lucrecia (La Ciénaga) Martel and this is clearly shown in her second feature, a not so gentle comedy about a teenage girl teetering between her religious upbringing and her growing sexuality. The girls divorced mother is operating a rundown hotel when a married physician checks in and directs his attention to both the girl and her mother, leading to startling moments for all concerned.
