smARTfilms: Childhood Framed - "Zéro de conduite" & "White Mane"
Join BIMA for five weeks of films curated by Steve Tremble, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts executive director and a former director of Cornell University's film program.
The works in this series are not childrens films, but films about the mysteries of childhood which, of course, are the same mysteries we carry into adulthood. These comedies and dramas, rich in observation and allegory, are both as simple and complex as childhood itself.
All sales are final. No refunds.

Zéro de conduite

Zéro, Jean Vigos influential short feature, is set at an all-boys school where the students rebel in a series of anarchistic acts magnified by Vigos ever surprising imagery and Maurice Jauberts vibrant score. Although fanciful and often surreal, French censors saw it as a threat to civil order and banned it for twelve years.

White Mane

White Mane, though lesser known than Albert Lamorisses other classic work The Red Balloon, is a compelling tale about a boy and a wild horse set on the marshy coast of Bouches-du-Rhône.
