Event
Richard Wright at 100
Richard Wright at One-Hundred is a collaborative retrospective of the author, in which the First Tennessee Foundation has made it possible for Hattiloo Theatre to partner with the National Civil Rights Museum (NCRM), Joysmith Gallery, and Rhodes College, to commemorate the birth and accomplishments of one of Americas most celebrated writers. Dramatic performances by New York stage actor Charles Holt and Phil Darius Wallace, an art exhibit featuring the works of 20 artists from across the nation curated by Joysmith Gallery, a reading circle for young children, and a lecture by Robert Bain SAGE Fellow of Cornell University, will constitute this celebration. The use of inter-disciplinarian art forms will examine how Wrights fictional works helped lay the groundwork for Black social movements and will also shed light on the historical importance of his non-fiction works.
