La Fiesta de la Friducha

¿Por qué una Fiesta? Una vida tan trágica, tan llena de accidentes, heridas, pérdidas y enfermedades, ¿no tendría que evocarse en un ritual del dolor, la ira y la tristeza?

Sin embargo, la pintura de Frida es una fiesta de color, de sonidos, de asombro ante las cosas más hermosas o terribles y, en todo caso, una celebración de la vida con todas sus ambigüedades.

Y en especial, una quiebra de los límites entre la Vida y la Muerte, la Calaca, esa imagen reiterada en la Cultura mexicana desde los tiempos pre-hispánicos a nuestros días, siempre en la forma carnavalesca, irónica y festiva propia de la tradición que encontramos en las ferias, la festividad de el Día de los Muertos y en una fantástica re-utilización de los signosen
los cuadros de Frida.

Curiosamente, es la fragmentación y el ensamblaje de los signos más diversos (desde los más íntimos y personales a los eventos sociales, culturales, históricos) lo que nos sorprende y conmueve en su pintura. No la linealidad de su historia su biografía fragmentada, quebrada,
inconexa- sino la onírica, fantasiosa (se ha dicho surrealista) relación y recuperación de los objetos, las visiones y los hechos.

Quizás por eso un performance en los límites de la teatralidad,
la narración, lo oculto y lo visible- sea la manera más fiel de convocar esos fragmentos de vida. Y con ellos la Música, la comelata, la alegría, los Mariachis sonando y la Fiesta que exorciza el dolor, la lejanía y la tristeza.

However, Frida's painting is a party of color, of sounds, of amazement at the most beautiful or terrible things and, in any case, a celebration of life with all its ambiguities.
Moreover, notably, the bankruptcy of the boundaries between Life and Death, the "Calaca," that image repeated in Mexican Culture since the times pre-Hispanic today, always in the carnival, ironic and festive typical of the tradition that we find in the fairs, the holiday of "Day of the Dead" and - in fantastic reuse of signs in Frida's paintings.
It is the fragmentation and assembly of the most diverse (from the most intimate and personal to social events, cultural, historical) what surprises us and touches in her paintings. Not the linearity of its history - its fragmented, broken biography, disjointed - but the dreamlike, fanciful (it has been said surrealist) relationship and recovery of objects, visions, and facts.

Maybe that's why a performance - within the limits of theatricality, the narration, the hidden and the visible. Be the most reliable way to summon those fragments of life And with them the Music, the kite, the joy, the Mariachis playing and the Fiesta that exorcises pain, remoteness, and sadness.
