Repatriation to the Moon
Peterborough's newest theatre company, Grassboots Theatre, present the world premiere of Repatriation to the Moon. In this work, a janitor and an engineer fall in love in a factory. One is Polish, the other Italian. A comical and heartwarming story set in a time of war these lovebirds attempt to escape persecution in the most absurd way imaginable.
Repatriation to the Moon is inspired by a performance from 1940 by Wladyslaw Dutkiewicz. Dutkiewicz created dozens of plays for the underground Polish resistance. It was used to keep their spirits strong, and their stories remembered. While the script has been long lost, one photo remains from this underground (and illegal) theatre show, Repatriation to the Moon. It is this image that has inspired this newly reimagined story.
Grassboots Theatre is an artist-driven theatre company that celebrates the human spirit through socially relevant stories. Our creative process is rooted in physical theatre practices with a strong emphasis on humour and play.
