Join us when we visit City Farm SLO, a 19-acre hidden agricultural gem in the heart of San Luis Obispo.
City Farm SLO represents a unique collaboration among municipal government, a non-profit organization, business enterprises, educational institutions, and public and private funding agencies committed to the revival of community engagement in sustainable agriculture.
Their mission is to manage San Luis Obispos 19-acre Calle Joaquin Ag Reserve to achieve the goals specified in the Citys Master Plan:
Enable sustainable crop production by small farmers
Provide area youth with on-site educational programs
Engage the community in the life of an urban farm
Located along Highway 101 near the southbound LOVR exit, the property is owned by the City of San Luis Obispo and has been managed by the City Farm SLO non-profit since 2013.
During the program, well learn about the operations, history, and future of this unique Urban Farm and have the opportunity to participate in some farm activities. Our guide will be President and Acting Executive Director, Dr. Steven Marx, and other farmers onsite. See http://cityfarmslo.org for more information.
Dr. Steven Marx is a retired professor of English and Environmental Studies at Cal Poly. He organized and was coordinator of the Cal Poly Land Project and edited Cal Poly Land: A Field Guide. He is the recipient of Cal Poly's Distinguished Teaching Award and the College of Liberal Arts Scholar of the Year Award.
