Knives in Hens by David Harrower
Canadian Premiere of Knives in Hens by David Harrower
Directed by Leora Morris starring Diana Bentley, Jim Mezon and Jonathon Young. Set and Lighting Design by Kaitlin Hickey. Sound Design by Christopher Ross-Ewart. Costume Design by Michelle Tracey.
In a pre-industrial, rural community, a Young Woman and her husband, Pony William live a simple life on their farm. When the Young Woman meets the much-feared local Miller, she begins a journey of education that begins with learning more about the world around her, and leads to an understanding of her own needs and desires that wasn't previously possible. A compelling fable about the pastoral life and what language makes possible.
Knives in Hens was Scottish playwright David Harrower's first play, premiering in 1995 at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, and received a recent production at the Donmar Warehouse. This play cemented his standing as one of the UK's leading playwrights.
"A tremendous play" The Guardian
