New World Order
Sidewalk Studio Theatre presents the Western Hemisphere Premiere of New World Order for One Day (Two Performances) Only on September 11th.
The Sidewalk Studio Theatre at 4150 Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake proudly presents a one-day sneak preview and western hemisphere premiere of New World Order, a new play by Ryan J-W Smith that has just taken the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by storm in its world premiere.
The play enjoyed wide praise from critics and audiences alike at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which just ended, and is about to embark on a world tour, with a one day stop in Los Angeles before its debut in Australia.
A tour-de-force one-man play written, directed and performed by Smith, New World Order takes audiences into the pseudo-classroom of the would-be nefarious world ruler as he gives a master class in leading a nation to war through fear and propaganda.
Like all Smiths plays, New World Order is written entirely in rhyming iambic verse. In 'New World Order', Smith uses three characters to drive home the play's pro-peace message: Through the eyes of a war veteran (The Veteran), a nefarious ruler (The King) and an ultimately conforming audience member (The Fool), we are shown, step by step, how world leaders confuse, distract, terrify, oppress, detain, abuse and murder ordinary people (on both 'sides') for their political and economic gain. Never before has the truth of the business of war, and our leaders Mafia-like behavior, been revealed with such devastating honesty.
It has already been nominated for an Amnesty International/Big Issue Freedom of Expression Award 2008, and its development was supported by the Gandhi Foundation.
Half of the gross ticket sales from the production will be donated to The Service Womens Action Network, a new organization that supports and develops the leadership of veterans, mentors young women considering military service, works to solve problems facing women in uniform, and provides and promotes services that are healing to women after their military service experience.
The two special performances will be held at the intimate Sidewalk Studio Theatre, 4150 Riverside Drive, in Toluca Lake. Tickets are $25 and are available by calling (818)558-5702 or visiting the theatre on the web at www.SSTproductions.org. As a sell-out is anticipated, those interested should book their tickets soon.
