Jazz @ The Dance Hall: The Chris Humphrey Quartet presents the Music of Horace Silver
Chris Humphrey, Marc LaForce, Ken Clark, and Tim Webb started making music together more than 30 years ago at the University of New Hampshire. Since then, their individual paths in the jazz world have involved most everyone on the local Seacoast NH scene, plus a diverse list of internationally-known artists including Clark Terry, Matt Wilson, Eddie Gale, Dizzy Gillespie, and Michael Gregory Jackson.
Along the way theyve continued to make music together, and their rapport as a group has only strengthened over the years. This project brings the quartet together to celebrate a long and productive association while paying tribute to the music of Horace Silver, a name that has become synonymous with jazz education. Take a walk through the halls of UNH on any given day and more often than not youll hear someone working on a Horace Silver tune.
Expect to hear some of Silvers more popular tunes-- which have long ago become jazz standards--and some lesser-known gems from his vast catalog of compositions. And enjoy listening to a deep and vibrant conversation between these four old friends, who are still bringing new ideas to the table every time they meet up on the bandstand.
