Tom Porter has more than 30 years experience performing jazz piano on both sides of the Atlantic. A native of Birmingham, England, he won the BBC's best jazz soloist under 30 award many years ago. He wouldn't qualify for it now. Tom played as a sideman accompanying most of the UK's top jazz musicians in the 1980s and 90s. Some of you in Maine may know Tom in another role. For nearly eight years he was one of the featured voices on Maine public radio, where he worked as a radio news anchor and reporter.
Saxophone player Frank Mauceri is a musical educator, improviser, composer and teacher. He is currently senior lecturer in music at Bowdoin College. His compositions include chamber music, electro-acoustic music, multi-media works, and jazz arrangements. He and bass player Sam Sherry compose many of the tunes performed by Tom Porter and Friends.
Sam Sherry has been performing on bass since 1974! (But he did start when he was very young). A native of Connecticut, Sam has played concerts on both coasts and in eight countries. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, he has played with many jazz notables, including Jimmy Heath, Eric Marienthal, Jerry Bergonzi and Curtis Fuller.
Michael Boucher has played drums in various jazz and R&B ensembles for many years. Most recently, in the Portland area with the Mainestream Jazzmasters, a large jazz combo, with The Sidemen, a classic piano trio, and also with various singers, Freeport Players and other groups. Michael is especially pleased to have the opportunity to mind the drum kit behind the illustrious talents of Tom, Sam and Frank.
