Art & Sip: Pin & Thread Art!
This event is an evening of fun & creativity and includes all necessary art supplies for your very own masterpiece, charcuterie, & two complimentary glasses of wine (with more available for a donation)
This 21+ class introduces Pin and Thread Art which is characterized by an arrangement of color thread strung between points to form geometric patterns or representational designs such as a hearts or letters. Thread is wound around a grid of nails hammered into a wooden board. Though straight lines are formed by the string, the slightly different angles and metric positions at which strings intersect gives the appearance of curves. String art has its origins in the 'curve stitch' activities invented by Mary Everest Boole at the end of the 19th century to make mathematical ideas more accessible to children. It was popularized as a decorative craft in the late 1960s through kits and books. String art has been around for a while; it was most popular in the '70s, but it is enjoying a comeback as a simple and fun way to be creative and retro!
