Few musical works are as polarizing as Arnold Schoenbergs Pierrot Lunaire. Click on any youtube video of the work, and youll find a comment section bubbling with both ardent praise and indignant condemnation. However, despite its forbidding veneer, Pierrot is at its heart a darkly captivating and uniquely affecting work of music theatre. This summer, in a co-production with the Little Chamber Music Series the Could, the Blueridge Chamber Music Festival presents a performance of Pierrot Lunaire brought to ferocious life with choreography by Anishinaabe/French-Canadian/Welsh dance artist Olivia C. Davies exploring links between work, ceremony, place, and community.
