LYRICIST LOUNGE RHYME SKETCH PROGRAM: A Hip-Hop Theater Finale Performance
The Lyricist Lounge Rhyme Sketch Program, which was created and developed by Lyricist Lounge Media Group, was created in partnership with The Performance Project @ University Settlement as a vehicle for professional creative development and social change.  Performers between the ages of 18 and 26 years old were selected through an application / audition process.  Over three months (May - July 2019) the selected performers were trained and mentored to collaboratively develop, create and perform unique rhyme sketches based on global issues and local challenges facing their community.

Join these young artists as they present the work they created during the Lyricist Lounge Rhyme Sketch Program!

Featuring
AKUMA, BAH BLACK, CARDCAPTORXP, D-NASTY THA MASTA, FESAH ROLLINS, JABIR FAROOQ, MIJORI, POLO EXTENDO, SHAY ASE, S.O.U.L.E. & ZAKARIA

*** TICKETS ARE SUGGESTED PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN DONATION OF $10, $20, OR $30. DOORS OPEN 7:00PM / SHOW STARTS 8:00PM ***

All proceeds support the continuation of this programmatic partnership between LL and The Performance Project at University Settlement.

The Lyricist Lounge concept was birthed as a series of open mic events hosted in a small studio apartment in the Lower East Side of New York City.  Founded in 1991 by Hip Hop aficionados Danny Castro and Anthony Marshall, the duo dreamt of creating a space for raw talent and unsigned hype throughout the five boroughs of the city and beyond. This dream became a reality and resulted in three full-length albums, seven domestic tours, two seasons of the MTV sketch comedy series "The Lyricist Lounge Show", two DVD releases and countless showcases.

Lyricist Lounge has been the springboard for several of todays biggest Hip Hop stars. Past Lyricist Lounge alumni  artists include Mos Def, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Foxy Brown, Sean "Diddy" Combs and The Notorious B.I.G.. Lyricist Lounge looks to continue providing support for new talent in often overlooked communities.

The Performance Project @ University Settlement:
Since 2007, The Performance Project has been offering local young artists and professional emerging artists opportunities to connect, create and publicly present new work. We support artists who are interested in how live art can heal, empower and activate. The artists we work with commit to organizational and creative practices that promote trust, imagination and power-sharing. Our incubator for the next generation of citizen artists is fueled by our distinct, yet connected, cohorts: the Artist-in-Residence Program, The Performance Project Fellowship Program for Early Emerging Artists, our Community Arts and Culture Councils for Public Housing Residents and our annual Performance-Making Intensive for Young Artists & Leaders. We also host other community programs and dynamic guest artists seeking an affordable and supportive opportunity to self-produce their work.
