Despina, Florence and Marijas rooftop garden soiree

Join us at a beautiful rooftop garden in the South Street Seaport for an evening of socializing, tidbits of dance her/story, wine, and home-made
delectables. Your attendance helps us get to Venice and perform a collaborative work at Anima Mundi (Visions, October 2019)

Dancing mania, la belle indifference, and consumption of beauty, nutritious substances & fictional and real events
3 dancers will perform a dance-theater piece exploring hysteria in women due to various emotional traumas, at Anima Mundi (Visions)in Venice. Performance relates to the studies that were done on women in mental institutions in Paris at the end of the 19th century, but extends into problematics of hysteria in psychoanalysis, surrealism, feminism, and dance-theater.

Despina Stamos is a dancer/choreographer living and working in NYC since 1989, where her work has been presented in venues such as Dance Theater Workshop, PS122, and PS1. In 2006, she initiated and collaborated on the community project in Athens - passTRESpass, a multimedia performance installation in a former community market place addressing displacement . Stamos is a founding member of the Modern Dance Awareness Society.

Florence Benichous expansive repertoire includes site-specific performance both as a dancer and a choreographer, and voice over as well as acting work. She sees dance as a language and aims to use movement within various media to express individual and social relationships, limitations, conflicts, and connections.

Marija Krtolica is a Brooklyn based yoga teacher, dance writer, and performer/choreographer. She holds a PhD in dance from Temple University; MA in Performance Studies (NYU). Her recent artistic and theoretical work includes exploration of hystero-grotesque embodiment, presentations at the Marxist Education Project and Left Forum, and participation in Lacanian Compass Flesh Cartels.
