An American in Paris
The Story Jerry is an American painter who lives in Paris. Every day he walks through the boulevards with his friends trying to sell his paintings and enjoying the sights of the city. Lise is a school teacher in Paris. She takes her school girls around the city to teach them about art and history. During a school outing one of Lises students falls and scraps her knee. Jerry helps her up and Lise thanks him for his kindness. Lise and Jerry instantly are drawn to each other, however the school girls hurry their teacher back to school.
Later that same day a rich American art patron named Milo purchases one of Jerrys paintings. He is thrilled to have made a sale! Milo flirts with Jerry and leaves him her card, encouraging him to call her later that evening. Jerry shrugs off Milos invitation and starts making his way home. As he strolls down the boulevard he spots Lise. At first she pretends not to notice him, but the two soon start dancing and the time flies as their infatuation grows.
Lise suddenly realizes that she is late to meet her fiancé, Henri. The conflicted Lise gives Jerry a quick kiss on the cheek and makes her way to Henri's where she is met by the rich ladies of Paris enjoying a cocktail party. She apologies to Henri for being late as he introduces her to their guests.
The next day Jerry makes his way to the local café, day dreaming about Lise. Henri has made plans to meet Lise at the very same café and takes a seat near Jerry as he awaits her arrival. Henri introduces himself to Jerry and they discover they are both hopelessly in love just as Lise enters the café. Henri introduces Lise as his fiancé and Jerry's heart sinks as he takes Lises hand and pretends to be meeting the love of his life for the first time.
Crushed about Lises engagement, Jerry decides to call Milo. She invites him to the event of the year the black and white ball. Everyone is dressed "to the nines", enjoying drinks and great company. Lise and Jerry meet again and their love is rekindled. By the end of the evening Lise and Jerry run into each others arms and are torn apart by Milo and Henri. Milo realizes that Jerry is not interested in her and Henri finds out that Lise is marrying him out of obligation.
Jerry decides that he must leave Paris. Without Lise the entire city is too empty. He packs his suitcase and makes his way down the boulevard. His friends have other ideas. The garçon from the café and the gendarme stop him just in time for Henri to bring Lise to Jerry.
