Jenny Scheinman & Allison Millers PARLOUR GAME (night 2 or 2)
Local composer and violinist Jenny Schienman returns to Humboldt following performances at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Monterey Jazz Festival and Birdland in New York with her musical partner Allison Miller their new band Parlour Game.
In their latest endeavor violinist Jenny Scheinman and drummer Allison Miller dig into the rootsier elements of jazz along with the formidable pianist Carmen Staaf and bassist Tony Scherr. The repertoire explores swing, gogo, backbeats and ballads. Scheinman and Miller are both artists with eclectic backgrounds having collaborated with such diverse musicians as Bill Frisell, Brian Blade, Ron Miles, Nels Cline, Jason Moran, Lucinda Williams, Natalie Merchant, Toshi Reagon, and Rene Rosnes. In PARLOUR GAME they explore the classic format of the piano quartet and strive for excellence in simplicity - the perfect groove and a melody that sticks.
This two evening engagement is hosted by Redwood Jazz Alliance and the Arcata Playhouse. With RJA hosting Monday, October 21 (tickets will be available thru RJA starting Sept. 1) and the Arcata Playhouse hosting the Tuesday, October 22 performance (tickets available here tickets).
