Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District every third Friday of the month. Showcasing an eclectic mix of intelligent comedians from the Bay Area and beyond, the event was created in order to bring back to life a comedy show that used to take place at El Rio in the 1980s and 1990s. The Bay Area Reporter (BAR) recently named the show Best Comedy Night for the second consecutive year.
The Friday July 19th show features Diane Amos, (the Pine Sol Lady and much, much more), Eve R. Meyer (former Executive Director of SF Suicide Prevention), Scott Lettieri (KCBS Radio journalist), Nick Leonard (Bay Area favorite), and Lisa Geduldig.
Diane Amos is a San Francisco-based actress, improv artist, and comedian who is known as The Pine Sol Lady for having starred in their national commercials for over 20 years. She has appeared in numerous films including Nine Months, Copycat, Angels in the Outfield, EDTV, Twisted, and Woody Allens Blue Jasmine. Diane was a semi-finalist in Star Search, has been on A&E's Evening at The Improv, Lifetime's Girls' Night Out, and Comedy Central's Women Aloud. She has also been a winner on the game shows: Wheel of Fortune, $25,000 Pyramid, and Super Password. She was raised in San Francisco by two lesbian mothers and attended Washington High School in the Richmond District, where took an improvisational comedy class...and the rest is history.
Nick Leonard has performed his dry and sly humor at clubs around California and all over the world including Marsh Theater, NYU, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The San Francisco Fringe Festival, and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival. He is the co-founder of the QComedy Showcase (currently on hiatus) and the popular Bilarious Show in the National Queer Arts Festival. Nick also performs regularly as his alter ego, Ginorma Desmond.
Eve Meyer was actually born in Brooklyn some time ago and has been entertaining her family and the public ever since. Most recently, after working in suicide prevention for thirty years (no joke!) she has appeared at El Rio, the Milk Bar, Bar Fluxus, Neck of the Woods, The Raven, and Volkskirsche. She also works as a voice actor and a consultant on crisis intervention.
Scott Lettieri has worked as a broadcast journalist in the Bay Area for the better part of 25 years. He's currently on the air at KCBS Radio in San Francisco. Reporting the news, especially lately, has motivated him to give comedy a shot.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (which celebrates its 27th Annual shows this December), Comedy Returns to El Rio, and the monthly comedy show, Comedy at Ashkenaz! on the second Thursday of the month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Lisa moonlights as a freelance arts publicist.
