ALEX CITY ARTS Presents THE HEART BEHIND THE MUSIC
Since 2011, The Heart Behind The Music has been bringing to the stage some of the world's best singers and songwriters who share the meaning and music behind their hit songs. This show provides an up-close and personal insight into some of the greatest music ever written and performances by some of music industry's most talented musicians.
Singer-songwriter, John Berry, rose to stardom on the country charts of the 1990s with such mega hits as Your Love Amazes Me, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye and Shes Taken a Shine. During this star-making decade, Berry placed 20 singles on the country charts, 6 of which were in the Top 5. He has earned multiple Gold and Platinum records over the years, won a Grammy Award in 1996, and been nominated for numerous prestigious music awards. In 2017, Berry launched an internationally syndicated television show entitled Songs and Stories with John Berry. He continues to release project and is currently pursuing a touring schedule that is more active than ever. Berry admits, With time, Ive learned that the road to fulfillment is doing what I was called to do, love to do, and then doing it the best I can, regardless of the circumstances; and, for me, that is making music and singing for people.
At a time when country music was becoming overrun with artists whose style had more to do with pop and dance music than the traditional sounds that built Nashville, Mo Pitney enjoyed his first success as a singer and songwriter who enthusiastically embraced a classic country sound. By the time he was 20, Pitney had moved to Nashville with an eye toward making music his career, and he landed a record contract with Curb Records. In 2014, Pitney was invited to appear at the Grand Ol' Opry, and the unknown artist wowed the audience with heartfelt performances of his songs "Country" and "Clean Up on Aisle Five." Pitneys set received a standing ovation. When Country was released, amid enthusiastic reviews, Country Rebel magazine declared Mo Pitney was "the next Randy Travis." "Boy & a Girl Thing" followed in 2015, setting the stage for the 2016 release of his full-length debut project, Behind This Guitar.
Deborah Allen is an extraordinarily talented singer, songwriter, producer and performer. Although most often associated with signature smash, Baby I Lied, the true measure of Allen's influence in contemporary music is underscored by the many hits that have made their way up the Country, Pop or AC radio charts during her career, earning multiple Million Air-Play Awards in the process, and resulting in a pair of Grammy nominations. With more than 1,600 compositions published, Allen's songs have been recorded by a laundry list of top artists. The charismatic artist has toured the world numerous times and continues to deliver engaging performances that incorporate her inimitable sense of theater, showmanship and energy. With her current release, Hear Me Now, Allen creates art entirely on her own terms and has no plans of slowing down any time soon. That's simply not Deborah Allen's style.
