Rickey Woodard and Tamir Hendelman Duo Concert- at PQ Sessions' Jazz Plus series
PQ Sessions and the Jazz Plus series present:
Rickey Woodard and Tamir Hendelman Duo Concert- Saxophonist Rickey Woodard and pianist Tamir Hendelman perform an evening of standards and jazz compositions on a Louis XV Steinway masterfully rebuilt by David Andersen Award-winning pianist-composer Tamir Hendelman brings an evening of piano improvisations to the Sherman Oaks home of an art and music lover, performing on a masterfully rebuilt Louis XV 1925 Steinway B, courtesy of piano technician extraordinaire David Andersen. The evening will be a feast for the ears with musical delights inspired by Tamir's travels and interactions with other artists. Poems, works of art, family, friends and stories of travel will serve as inspiration for spontaneous improvisations. Rickey Woodard was born in Nashville where he played in a family band playing blues and R' n'B, while being exposed to jazz greats Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon and especially Hank Mobley and George Coleman. Rickey went to California and joined the Rya Charles Band where he was a member for 8 years. He then pursued his solo career, recording as a leader and sideman for Concord Records. He frequently leads his own quartet/quintet, performing and recording with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He has performed with the Frank Capp Juggernaut Band, and performed/recorded with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Smith, The Temptations, Nancy WIlson and many others.
Tamir Hendelman is known as a leader of his own trio with two jazz chart topping releases under his name, as well as a long-time member of the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with vocalists Roberta Gambarini, Natalie Cole, Tierney Sutton and Barbra Streisand. He has performed with orchestras, including a new rendition of Rhapsody In Blue- and given solo recitals celebrating the music of Cole Porter, Thelonius Monk and Dizzy Gillespie.
