Stoddard Blackall: "Hiccups"
A two-person musical on love and OCD. A wacky piano bar entertainer takes his bubbly, fashionista sweetheart on an increasingly turbulent voyage through love under a microscope. Shiloh and Liza start off at a literal high point on a sunrise-powered hot air balloon ride of wonder, setting the bar for romance. Then Shiloh gets the Hiccups; the never-ending kind of the mind. And as their relationship progresses, the Hiccups in Shiloh's head steer them into dangerous territory, threatening to tear the otherwise destined couple apart for good. Shiloh may be playful at heart, but Relationship OCD (ROCD) is no joke.
In the past four years, Hiccups has undergone four previews at various theaters and venues in the New York area during its stages of development. First, at La Luz in Brooklyn (2015), second and third at Shetler Studios (2016, 2017), and fourth at Rockwood Music Hall, stage 3 (2018). In October of this year (2019), select Hiccups songs backed by a full band will be performed at Rockwood 1 for international OCD week.
Stoddard Blackall is a pianist, singer & composer with a degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music (2010), and graduate of the Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop (2015). Stoddard is an entertainer at Brandys Piano Bar and go-to NYC music director for musical improv teams at the UCB, The Peoples Improv Theater and The Magnet. He is a member of AOFine, retrosexual rock n roll band (on iTunes and Spotify!), and creative director with Sunny Songsters Inc., children's entertainers.
Trista Olivas (Liza) Trista is thrilled to be premiering Hiccups. She has had extensive vocal training with several prominent instructors and received her BFA in Theater Arts from California State University, Fullerton. She has appeared on many stages with notable roles in As It Is In Heaven, Fat Pig, A Piece of My Heart, A Flea In Her Ear, Cole, Songs For a New World, Bye-Bye, Birdie, Into the Woods, Cabaret, and Les Miserables. Trista is now the founder/co-owner of Sunny Songsters, LLC., an early childhood music development and entertainment program. She conducts classes and other events multiple times a week with her Hiccups co-star, Stoddard Blackall. Much love to her husband, Adam Demerath.
"Incredibly moving music and story, with powerful and beautiful lyrics; if you like the music of Jason Robert Brown, you will love Hiccups."
