Celtic Community Night with Betsy Branch and Mark Douglass
Betsy Branch (fiddle) and Mark Douglass (piano) have been performing together for over 20 years, playing and singing a variety of dance music and traditional songs. Join them for an evening celebrating their love of Celtic music, with tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, Breton and Quebec. Following their performance will be a community music session. All traditional instruments, voices, and dancing feet are welcome!
Admission is on a sliding scale $5-15 at the door or in advance on brownpapertickets.com Students and under 18 free.
About the Performers:
Betsy and Mark have honed their musical skills in dance halls, pubs, and concert venues all over the country. Both are music directors for Portland Revels. Betsy is the Associate Music Director for Revels' winter solstice stage show, which runs every December at the Newmark Theater. Mark is the director of Revels' spring chorus, and delights in leading large groups in song. Together, they play in a Portland-based contra dance band, with Bill Tomczak on clarinet, called Campaign for Reel Time. Betsy teaches and performs in summers in North Carolina and Massachusetts, as well as teaching private fiddle full time out of her Portland home. Connecting Celtic Appreciators in Portland PORTLAND CELTIC COMMUNITY NIGHT Second Wednesday every month.
The goal is simple: Create a stronger, vibrant, and more unified community of Celtic musicians, dancers, and artists, and appreciators within the Portland, Oregon region. By hosting evenings that include performances by local and regional bands and artists, followed by an open traditional music and dance session, we can help foster a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can appreciate and participate in Celtic culture.
