WORKSHOP: Swing Dancing and Improv: Cross-training for improvisers
Athletes cross-train in different sports to improve overall performance. Similarly, improvisers can enhance their scene work by learning and applying social dance theory to improv. In this workshop we will use swing dance principles such as leading and following, mirroring, and intention to guide scene work. A portion of the class will be devoted to learning East Coast Swing and will include the basic step, turns, and dips. Each dance exercise will be tied back to scene work with a focus on connection and tension, two elements that are emphasized in social dancing. Each improviser will learn to both lead and follow during the exercises.
No partner or dance experience necessary.
Prerequisite: Completed Intermediate 1.
