Summer Orchard Care Workshop
Back by popular demand! Come learn about key management decisions to make in your own orchard. This workshop will also focus on best cultivar and variety selections of apples and some pears for our area. Participants will learn pruning techniques to maximize fruit production and minimize suckers/shoots.
9am-12pm Location: Finnriver Farm and Orchard, 124 Center Rd, Chimacum, WA 98325 $25 per person*
Guest Speakers: Cameron Denning, Finnriver Orchard Manager Travis Alexander, Postdoctoral Researcher, WSU Northwest Washington Extension and Research Center in Mt. Vernon
Topics include: -Best Cultivars and Varieties Suitable for our Region -All About Summer Pruning - Preventing Shoots/Suckers & Pruning for Optimal Fruit Production -Water Management - Evapotranspiration and Irrigation (how much water does my tree need?) -Orchard Trees & Soils - Soil Ribbon Testing and Water Holding Capacity -A Focus on Apples & Pears (stone fruit and specialty fruits will not be specifically covered)
