New York Writers Workshop's Pitch Conference puts writers of fiction, nonfiction, and YA in front of editors from the large commercial houses. On day one, writers work on pitches with a New York Writers Workshop instructor. The idea is to present the work in the most appealing and compelling manner as possible. On days two and three, writers meet with editors from the large commercial houses (Random House, Viking/Penguin, St. Martin's, etc.). Day two begins with a panel of NYC-based literary agents discussing the market from their perspectives. The conference provides opportunity, plus insight into publishing realities as seen from the editor's side of the desk. The conference also creates, builds, and sustains writing communities.
