Women in Traditional Music: Ferrante & O'Herin
Welcome to our long-awaited "Women in Traditional American Music" with Marylou Ferrante and Robin OHerin.
This concert highlights the important role that women played both in creating and performing in the early 20th century. All three of these musicians are deeply vested in the American Traditional music.
The three musicians will share songs ranging from old-time music played on banjo, guitar, mandolin, and ukulele, to Piedmont and Delta Blues and ragtime. Blues and gospel women such as Memphis Minnie, Ma Rainey, Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be presented as well as traditional musicians like Maybelle Carter, Moonshine Kate, Ola Belle Reed, Texas Gladden, Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard.
Slide guitar, mountain dulcimer, and blues mandolin workshops will be offered before the concert, starting at 4 pm. Please call Robin at 413-243-2271 for questions about the workshops.
