DocFest - Celebrating Al Jarreau - starring Chris Walker & Friends
DocFest Benefit Concert, Celebrating Al Jarreau, Starring Chris Walker & Friends scheduled for fall at the Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts.

The sixth annual DocFest fall concert will feature the organization's co-founder, Chris Walker, performing songs from his new album, We're in This Love Together  Celebrating Al Jarreau. Also featured will be bassist Keith Vivens, playing with the locally popular funk band, TKOh!.

Ticket prices range from $25 to $100 and are available online at docfestjazz.org. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Denney Theatre, Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA), 790 Austin Street, Houston, TX. The emcee for the evening is Donna Franklin with KTSU-FM.

DocFest, Inc., was established in 2013 by Chris Walker (HSPVA 86) and Tamar Davis (HSPVA 98) to honor the mentoring and tutelage of Robert Doc Morgan, HSPVA Director of Jazz Studies (76 to 99).  Proceeds from the evening's event help support the Helen and Bob Morgan Jazz Scholarship at New York's New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Recipients of the scholarship are all HSPVA graduates.

Walkers musical career has spanned over 30 years, including 20 years with Al Jarreau as co-vocalist, bassist, music director, and friend. Prior to working with Jarreau, he performed and/or recorded with Ornette Coleman, Bob James, Kirk Whalum, Regina Belle, Cassandra Wilson, Michel Petrucciani, Gil Evans Orchestra among others. He will be accompanied at the concert by Jarreau's rhythm section featuring celebrated keyboardist Larry Williams from Los Angeles.

Keith Vivens recording and performance credits include Bobby Lyle, Harvey Mason, Kirk Whalum, Branford Marsalis, Duke Ellington Orchestra and many others. He will be joined by the Houston 10-piece funk band, TKOh!. During the evening, Vivens will become the 14th inductee into the HSPVA Jazz Hall of Fame. Walker was inducted in 2015.
