Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth is proud to present "13 the Musical" on July 12-14 at the BAAY Theatre! This special production is an entirely student-led process. Co-directors Brody Buck and Adaryn Healy, ages 16 and 15 respectively, were eager to lead a team of their peers alongside choreographer Meixing Rain in this memorable, coming-of-age musical. Featuring a catchy rock score by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, this show follows preteen Evan Goldman as he navigates a new middle school in the wake of his parents divorce. From popularity contests, awkward crushes, and developing confidence in oneself, "13 the Musical" explores timeless subject matter about growing up. It offers meaningful validation and an opportunity for young people to see themselves in a piece of art. For adults, it provides a nostalgic look back, as well as a healthy reflection on the adolescent experience. Parents are encouraged to attend with their kids as a way to connect and discuss this important time in all of our lives.
RATED PG-13: This show contains mature themes, so parental guidance is recommended for young viewers.
