In 2016 there were more than 64,000 overdose deaths in the US and of these, opioid-related deaths numbered over 42,000. A recent 60 Minutes telecast on CBS reported that over 1,000,000 children are living with their grandparents because they have been neglected by their parent (s) due to their addiction to heroin and other drugs.
For the last five years, Atascadero Fire and Police have reported a decline in overdoses and deaths in the community . One of the major reasons for this positive result may be Lighthouse Atascadero. A relatively new grassroots undertaking, Lighthouse Atascadero has brought together parents, public safety officials, school officials and , most importantly, students, to aggressively begin a coordinated proactive effort to raise awareness and provide resources to combat drug use among young people in Atascadero.
LLCC and Lighthouse Atascadero are offering an informational course about this program. Please take time to attend this free course so that in two hours you can hear the story of how this unique program took shape and how it has succeeded to the point where it will soon be used as a model throughout the country.
You will get an insiders look at how the program has initiated and/or is funding mentoring programs, reality tours, a library of resources, counseling programs, after school programs and has even involved students in an entrepreneurial project where funds earned are given back as scholarships.
We shall all be touched , in one way or another, by this drug epidemic. Learn how one community has decided to respond.
