Women of Jazz - Margaret Murphy-Webb
Join us for a very special afternoon when our third "Women of Jazz" artist, the award-winning vocalist Margaret Murphy-Webb, returns to Open Door. Be entertained by the music of Billie Holliday, John Lennon, Gloria Gaynor, Cole Porter and others.
Margaret has been featured at The Taste of Chicago, The Chicago Blues, Jazz and Gospel Festivals, Andys, The Green Mill, The Jazz Showcase, Pete Miller's, Winters Jazz Club and many other popular Chicago festivals and jazz venues.
She was named the 2018 Chicago Jazz Hero by the Jazz Journalists of America for her work as executive director of the South Side Jazz Coalition a non-profit organization working to produce more free, live jazz performances, create more jazz venues and promote music education and mentoring for inner city youth.
In addition to all of the above, Margaret is a fabulous story-teller and finds her best material in the rich treasure trove of her life - as a jazz artist, as a breast cancer survivor and as a retired Chicago Police officer.
