Women of Jazz - Bobbi Wilsyn
Open Door is delighted to present the second artist in our Women of Jazz Series, Bobbi Wilsyn. She is the recipient of the 2018 Black Excellence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Jazz and spent years as the featured Jazz-Blues vocalist with The Chicago Jazz Ensemble under the direction of its founder, the late William Russo.
With the CJE she performed with Jazz legends like Jon Faddis, Dr. Billy Taylor, Buddy DeFranco, Gerald Wilson, Joe Lovano, Von Freeman and Lonnie Smith. She has also sung with some of Chicago's foremost musical artists including Ramsey Lewis, Corky Siegel and Joan Collasos' "Eleven Jazzy Divas."
Her musical theater productions include "Beehive," "Sophisticated Ladies," and "It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues." She is a Professor of Instruction at Columbia College Chicago and is the Coordinator of Voice and Choral Studies.
