Eilen Jewell Live @ Western Ballroom
Western Ballroom is pleased to present the renown Eilen Jewell Band on Sunday, July 21, 2019!
Eilen Jewell will be previewing songs from her brand new album Gypsy!! Eilen is calling this her favorite album yet. New sounds. Old sounds. Electric guitar driven rockers. Classic country. Tender ballads. A Pinto Bennett cover. A protest song. All Live at the Western Ballroom!!
Until then, Eilen and the band will be touring from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic and debuting new songs and new band members. Shows from Boise to Bilbao are in the works for 2019. We are very lucky to have her in Callicoon, NY!!!
Eilen Jewell bridges many elements of American music: country, swing, jazz, rockabilly. Jewell's voice has a sensual, sultry twang that overlays beats ranging from tantalizingly slow to irresistibly danceable. Known for a country and blues to contemporary folk, her discography includes several albums of original material and one of Loretta Lynns covers. With a voice that soars and croons where few chance to sail, keen, detailed songwriting, several wildly acclaimed albums, a neighborly, almost self-effacing stage demeanor and a crack, retro/country-billy band that swings you from Twin Peaks to Butcher Holler, Eilen Jewell never fails her audience.
American Songwriter describes Eilen Jewell as, one of Americas most intriguing, creative and idiosyncratic voices. The Boise, Idaho songwriter is one of a kind.
Longtime fans who love Eilen Jewell in classic country mode will delight in the pedal steel driven "These Blues" and the sole cover on Gypsy, "You Cared Enough To Lie, written by fellow Idahoan and country legend Pinto Bennett.
Special guest Cliff Westfall will be opening the show!!
New York-based country songwriter Cliff Westfall writes songs about heartache, loss, addiction you know, funny songs. Or he can turn on a dime and dive headlong into a sentimental weeper. The Kentucky native delivers with a mixture of wit and bravado that, for Westfall, is central to what country music is all about. On his new album, Baby You Win, released July 13, 2018, hes assembled a crew of some of New Yorks best musicians to explore a new idea of Americana, drawing inspiration from sources often forgotten by the current country scene.
To Record Baby You Win, Cliff enlisted the producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, the Ramones, Antony and The Johnsons, Evan Dando Phish, (Akron Family) and the renown New York guitarist Graham Norwood. The three drew from their extensive connections to assemble a band with massive list of credits, like electric guitarist Scott Metzger (Shooter Jennings, Phil Lesh, Joe Russos Almost Dead), pedal steel player Dan Iead (Norah Jones, Valerie June), bassist Jeremy Chatzky, (Ronniew Spector, Bruce Springsteen, Laura Cantrell), drummer David Christian (Danger Mouse, Mary Timonys Helium), even the keyboardist from Bruce Springsteens E Street Band Charlie Giordano. The album was cut and mixed over just nine days at Goggins studio. A lot of it was pretty organic, Westfall says. Thats how Bryce works and I was lucky enough to have a band good enough to make that work.
