Join the Sylvester Manor Farmers to gather once again and hop and holler into the night at our summer contra dance on Saturday, August 3rd at 7:30pm. Beginners welcome!
With their fiddles, mandolins, and old time calls, DuneGrass and caller Dave Harvey will lead the community in this traditional dance form.
About the Caller: DAVE HARVEY
A popular caller and founder of New York City Barn Dance, Dave is known for his strong, energetic, clear calling of New England contras and southern and singing squares for all audiences backed by fancy, fiery footwork. He says, "I try to keep it high energy, with a diversity in the formation be it square, circle or contra make things easy and have people dancing right away."
About the Band: DUNEGRASS
Together for almost ten years, DuneGrass has been performing an eclectic repertoire to audiences at festivals, concerts and contra dances all over the East End of Long Island. Listeners will enjoy carefully crafted arrangements of original songs and sprightly instrumentals, and will also recognize familiar tunes, but with a "bluegrass" twist. DuneGrass performances easily transition from folk to jazz, bluegrass and swing, punctuated by friendly banter with the audience. DuneGrass is happy to have Sylvester Manor's own Sara Gordon sitting in on fiddle for this dance!
