the kates: university - storytelling
This seven week all female storytelling class involves a careful examination of the writer's voice via personal narrative with an emphasis on story development, exploration of personal experiences, editing, and presentation. ALL LEVELS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ENROLL AS THE CLASS WILL BE TAILORED TO EACH STUDENT.
It is a course primarily for writers interested in Chicago's Live Lit community. However, it also meets the needs of students with other interests: as a refresher course for both writers and actors, novice writers, and students and professionals looking to hone point of view and public speaking skills. This course will help students craft personal essays, memoirs or one person shows. The class will culminate in a student graduation showcase.
Dates include: Tuesday 7pm - 9pm January 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and February 4th and 11th. Graduation to be held on the week of (February 17th - 21st)
Classes will take place at Sheil Park 3505 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60657. PLEASE NOTE: PARKING CAN BE TRICKY.
the kates mission is to showcase talented female identified performers by creating inclusive and positive environments; which encourages artists to express their point of view in unique and non-apologetic ways.
the kates is an all female comedy showcase created by Chicago comedian and stand-up instructor Kelsie Huff. Kelsie Huff is a Columbia College Chicago graduate turned stand-up and storyteller. She's the creator and host of the kates, a ten year comedy showcase, hosted by The Book Cellar and Laugh Factory Chicago. Kelsie performs at clubs all around the Midwest, as well as comedy and fringe festivals around the country. She is a regular guest of, host chat, on ABCs Windy City LIVE, as well as a guest on WGN radio. Huff has written four solo shows, is a short film producer, screenwriter and voice over actor. Huff is also a fan of frosting and Cheese Whiz.
Full refunds are available up to 72 hours before the first class commences. If you are unable to participate in class after registration and the 72 hour refund window has passed you may be able roll your registration over to the next session, if there is availability. All refunds and roll overs polices are subject to approval.
