7pm Felicity Aston: The First Woman to Walk Across Antarctica Solo
Only three people in the world have crossed Antarctica alone. The first two were men and both Norwegian. At the age of 34, British explorer Felicity Aston became the third.
She spent 59-days, alone, skiing 1744km from the Ross Ice Shelf coast of Antarctica through the Transantarctic Mountains to the South Pole, and then on across the Antarctic Plateau to the opposite coast of the continent at Hercules inlet. Along the way she faced relentless bad weather, disorientating whiteouts, the ever-present threat of crevasses and an increasingly alarming friendship with the sun. Most challenging of all was finding a way to overcome the shock of utter isolation and finding the will, every morning, to keep going for just one more day.
Felicity will be speaking about her experiences and launching her new book, 'Alone in Antarctica' which shares the highs, lows and madness of two months alone in the most solitary of places.
Previously, Felicity has led several other notable expeditions including the Commonwealth Women's Antarctic Expedition, the largest and most international team of women ever to ski to the South Pole, the first British women's crossing of Greenland, and a 700km winter crossing of Lake Baikal in a Siberian winter. She was also part of the first, ever, all-female team to compete in the Polar Challenge, a 500km endurance race to the magnetic north pole, and has completed the notorious Marathon Des Sables, a 150-mile foot race across the Sahara.

Dave has broken five world records, written three books and completed more expeditions than you have fingers since he gave up a graphic design job in 2005. Shaped by a passion for combining sport and travel to encourage people to look after their own little corner of the planet by thinking big, staying healthy and smiling as much as possible, Dave's take on adventure is unique.
He's best known for his Expedition1000 project, an ambitious series of twenty five journeys of at least 1000 miles in length, each one using a different method of non-motorised transport. He aims to raise £1,000,000 for his selected charities by the end of the project.
