"A very special young talent with a unique sound that crosses through genres." -- KENNY BURRELL " An amazing and soulful sound." -- WAYNE SHORTER
VOCALIST KALIL WILSON is gifted with a powerful yet nuanced voice and armed with a technical versatility that has earned high marks from the music press and loyal fans on three continents. An Oakland native, Kalils early life was filled with music--he is the son of well-known Nigerian bassist/bandleader Babá Ken Okulolo. After early training with the Oakland Youth Chorus and the UC Berkeley Young Musicians Program, he joined the UCLA Voice Department, and completed an honors degree. Encouraged by the legendary Kenny Burrell, he recorded his first album, Easy To Love, showcasing his bright re-imaginings of jazz standards. On his latest album, Time Stops, he presents a set of arresting, original tunes, interpreted with his amazing, velvety voice. Touring throughout the U.S., Europe, and Russia (reaching as far as Siberia!), Wilson has captivated audiences and music critics alike, and has shared stages with luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Carlos Santana, Esperanza Spaulding, Maestro Michael Morgan, and Omara Portuondo.
PIANIST GRANT LEVIN is a highly regarded pianist who has played with many renowned musicians, graced the finest jazz venues in the Bay Area, and appeared in countless recordings. He holds a BA in music from the University of Nevada, and a faculty appointment in the music department of California State University, Chico.
BASSIST AIDAN MCCARTHY is a Bay Area native, currently in high demand on the jazz circuit having just been a finalist in Jazz Search West.
DRUMMER GENIUS WESLEY has been hailed as an amazing, prodigy jazz drummer and percussionist. Still a youth, he performs regularly with the Oaktown Jazz Workshop, the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carole, Kalil Wilson, Morgan Maudière, and many others.
